DIRECTV to Launch ESPN 3D to Millions of Customers Nationwide

Beginning in June, DIRECTV Will Debut ESPN 3D with 2010 FIFA World Cup Matches

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., and BRISTOL, Conn., Mar 29, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Continuing to lead the 3D revolution by offering customers new dimensions in sports programming, DIRECTV will add ESPN 3D, the industry’s first 3D sports television network, to its upcoming 3D lineup that will offer three dedicated 3D channels, including DIRECTV’s newly named linear 3D channel, N3D(TM) powered by Panasonic. Launching in June, millions of DIRECTV HD customers will have access to ESPN’s entire 3D programming lineup, including up to 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches.

ESPN 3D will showcase a minimum of 85 live sporting events during its first year, beginning June 11 with the first 2010 FIFA World Cup match, featuring South Africa versus Mexico. Other events to be produced in 3D includeX Games 16, 2010 college football ACC Championship, 2011 BCS National Championship game, college basketball and NBA games in 2011. DIRECTV HD customers who subscribe to ESPN will receive ESPN 3D at no additional cost.

This June, DIRECTV HD customers will receive a free software upgrade enabling them to have access to the 3D channels on DIRECTV. DIRECTV HD customers will need a 3D television set and 3D glasses to view 3D programming on DIRECTV.

One-Stop Supports Bowl For Kids’ Sake

LEWISTOWN, PA – For the fourth consecutive year, One-Stop Communications of Pa, Inc. will sponsor the Big Bothers Big Sisters of Juniata Valley’s annual fundraiser Bowl for Kids’ Sake.

Pennsylvania House Passes Ban on Cell Phone Use – Bill moves on to the Senate

It cannot be denied that talking and texting on a wireless phone while driving is dangerous, and Pennsylvania legislators are one step closer to making it illegal, too.

On January 26th, a bill was overwhelmingly approved in the House of Representatives to ban talking and texting while driving. If it is approved in the Senate, the Governor has already agreed to sign the bill and make it law. Currently, the bill imposes a $50 fine for violations, except those made in emergency situations. The legislation does allow drivers to use hands-free devices to operate their phones, and GPS systems would also still be legal.

Three PA localities already have hands-free driving laws in place. They are: Conshohocken, Hilltown Township, and Lebanon.

NEWPORT, PA – One-Stop Communications of PA, Inc. was recently awarded
$2,174 through the Small Business Advantage Grant Program. Launched by
Governor Rendell in July 2004, the grant program provides a 50-percent
match for equipment or processes to reduce energy consumption and promote
pollution prevention for Pennsylvania manufacturers and service providers.

One-Stop Communications is one of 48 Pennsylvania businesses that are
investing in energy efficiency. “The high costs of electricity and fuel
are affecting all of us,” said Governor Rendell. “From families to small
businesses to large corporations, these rising costs are making it harder
to stretch a budget or earn a profit, but there are steps that we can
take. These innovative firms recognize that and they are making the
investments necessary to use energy in a smarter fashion, which means
lower expenses and higher margins.”

One-Stop Communications has matched the $2,174 grant to purchase and
install high-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning
equipment with zone controls to conserve energy at their Newport location.

Charity Honors Lewistown Business for Support of Vocational Training Program (Originally Posted 12/30/07)

On December 12, Skills of Central PA, Inc. (Skills) honored Michael Buffington, owner of One Stop Communications, with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions to its computer recycling program. Skills’ regional vice president Jolene Ernst and community services director Karen Weyant presented the award to Buffington at his store located at 126 Electric Avenue.

Thanks, in large part, to Buffington’s efforts, Skills has diverted over 20 tons of computer-related materials from area landfills. Through One Stop Communications, Buffington serves as a point of contact to the public, promoting recycling and collecting outdated and end-of -life computer equipment for Skills’ recycling program in Juniata County. The computers are then disassembled and shipped to various recyclers in PA.

Buffington’s efforts not only benefit the environment, they support people with disabilities. Donating computer-related materials to Skills’ vocational training and industrial services programs provides individuals with developmental disabilities with an opportunity to learn valuable employment (and pre-employment) skills in a supportive environment — while earning a paycheck.

“Improving the quality of life for people with disabilities while protecting our environment is a major undertaking,” said Ernst. “Michael’s partnership with Skills is one example of the positive steps that have been taken in this direction.”

Skills began its computer recycling program in February, 2005. “Keeping computers out of landfills is a primary goal of the program,” said Ernst, “We felt compelled to acknowledge Michael’s hard work to that end. When a computer is buried in a landfill, there is a high risk of the toxic chemicals contained within it eventually leaching into the groundwater.”

The award criteria are: Community and public involvement; partnership and collaboration; effectiveness; and other specific considerations.

Founded in 1960, Skills is one of the oldest and largest private non-profit human service organizations in Central Pennsylvania serving people with disabilities. Skills employs 900 staff throughout 14 counties and support 1300 individuals.
