​Barn owl populations in North America, especially in Pennsylvania, have declined significantly in the last two decades due to the scarcity of appropriate nesting sites in hollow trees and old barns, along with alterations in grassland habitat.

In the fall of 2016, a family farm in the heart of Mifflin County set out to install nest boxes and begin observations of their barn owls for educational research in collaboration with Shaver’s Creek. When the family decided to add cameras to the nesting boxes, they knew they would need dependable, high-speed internet. With the help of Mifflin County Wireless, they were able to provide the public with a high-quality, dependable live stream.
