Barn owl populations in North America, especially in Pennsylvania, have declined significantly in the last two decades due to the scarcity of appropriate nesting sites in hollow trees and old barns, along with alterations in grassland habitat.

In the fall of 2016, a family farm in the heart of Mifflin County set out to install nest boxes and begin observations of their barn owls for educational research in collaboration with Shaver’s Creek. When the family decided to add cameras to the nesting boxes, they knew they would need dependable, high-speed internet. With the help of Mifflin County Wireless, they were able to provide the public with a high-quality, dependable live stream.

You can view the live stream at the link below under the heading “Nest Box Camera.”

Earlier this year, One-Stop Communications announced it was merging with Mifflin County Wireless and Telecentive to serve their customers better, which included relocating all their office and retail operations under one roof. One-Stop Communications is moving to 101 East Market Street in downtown Lewistown today. The location is currently the offices for Mifflin County Wireless, which can be found on the corner of East Market and North Brown Street.

Co-founder of One-Stop Communications, Michael Buffington, explains his enthusiasm for the move, “We are extremely excited to be moving our offices to Market Street. In recent years, our community has seen a renewal of activity in downtown Lewistown, and we want to be part of it. The merger of our companies provided the perfect opportunity to make this happen. I take great pride in knowing we are part of the new history being written for Lewistown as our businesses and community adapt to the ever-changing consumer and business demands that shape the landscape of businesses along Market Street.”

Buffington also noted how Market Street in downtown Lewistown is flourishing and finding vacant retail and office space is at a premium. Over the last few years, it has been commonplace to see construction crews in the heart of downtown Lewistown as many of the once-vacant buildings are being restored and transformed into new uses.

Cody Wian, the new President and CEO for One-Stop Communications has been working in downtown Lewistown for the last couple of years after Mifflin County Wireless relocated their offices to downtown Lewistown and stated, “We are excited to bring more jobs and service capability to our location in Downtown Lewistown. We pride ourselves on being an integral part of the community and this move only strengthens our position. We are very excited for the continued potential for our companies with the recent merger and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.”

One-Stop Communications will focus on expanding affordable high-speed internet to the area with local support and service from downtown Lewistown. Their teams have been working on wireless and fiber expansion projects that will be operational in 2024 that are the backbone of many of the other services that they support as a company, like residential and business phone service, satellite and streaming TV, managed IT services, cloud service, network security, security systems, security cameras, and more.

One-Stop Communications of Pa Inc., Mifflin County Wireless LLC, and Telecentive LLC are proud to announce that an agreement has been reached to merge their companies by the new year. The three companies have been working collaboratively for the last couple of years. This merger will allow the companies to better serve their customers by combining resources and services offered under one roof with a unified vision of empowering connectivity, communication, technology, and entertainment for a seamlessly integrated digital future.

The combined companies will operate as One-Stop Communications, with the Mifflin County Wireless and Telecentive brands continuing to operate as divisions of One-Stop Communications until regulatory approval and operations can be reorganized. All office and retail operations will be located in downtown Lewistown at 101 East Market Street, the current office for Mifflin County Wireless. Cody Wian will serve as the President and CEO of the company after the merger has been completed. He has expressed his excitement about combining the three companies, stating, “I am excited to bring these three great resources in our community under one roof and one team. We have operated separately over the years, and it is time that we better utilize our resources in today’s ever-competitive market. From Internet Service and business IT Solutions to residential TV service, working together as One-Stop Communications, we can be your one-stop for your technology needs.”

Michael Buffington, the founder of One-Stop Communications, will still be involved with the company, working next to Cody and staff on planning and expansion projects to serve the local community. Buffington explains some benefits as the companies combine operations: “Our three companies have been sharing resources for years. We have talented and experienced people working on similar projects. It only made sense to bring them together for a stronger company that can collaborate better as one. Just as we have done since 1996, we will continue to bring innovative technologies to the communities we live in to help residents stay connected to the world.”

The three companies are better as one. One-Stop Communications will be focused on expanding affordable high-speed internet to the area with local support and service. Their teams have been working on wireless and fiber expansion projects that will be operational in 2024. In today’s world, the internet is the backbone of many of the other services that they will support as one company, like residential and business phone service, satellite and streaming TV, managed IT services, cloud service, network security, security systems, security cameras, and more.

Mifflin County Wireless, a local internet service provider, announced that it has completed its recent expansion project to service more homes and businesses in Mifflin County. The expansion was made possible by the installation of new non-line-of-site equipment on the company’s towers and network updates.

The new equipment uses advanced non-line-of-sight technology, which means that Mifflin County Wireless can now serve many places that were previously unserviceable. In the past, the company’s service required a direct line of sight to one of its towers, which left many places unserviceable due to trees.

The Mifflin County commissioners supported this expansion project with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. Broadband infrastructure was one of the intended uses for ARPA, making it possible for more people to be connected to the world for vital services such as education, health care, communications, and work.

“We are excited to be able to offer our high-speed internet service to more homes and businesses in Mifflin County,” said Cody Wian, President of Mifflin County Wireless. “We know that reliable internet access is essential for many people, and we are committed to providing our customers with the best possible service.”

Mifflin County Wireless offers unlimited data plans starting at $50 per month with local support and service. The company also has no data caps or throttling and no long-term contracts. Monthly taxes and fees are included.
