Mifflin County Communities That Care (CTC) made award presentations to the winners of their Underage Drinking Prevention commercial contest. All Mifflin County high school students in the media classes were invited to submit a 30-second public service announcement (PSA). As part of the awards, the winning students were given a total of $250 in gift certificates to be used at One-Stop Communications.
The theme of the student commercials was “Most Mifflin County Teens Have Better Things to do than to Drink Alcohol.” In their commercials, students were asked to include statistics from the 2009 Youth Survey, which was taken by over 1,000 youth in Mifflin County. Results of this survey showed that most teens do not drink regularly, despite the common misperception to the contrary.
The PSAs were shown at the 3rd Annual Community Movie Night on June 15, 2012 to the crowd of about 200 attendees. The PSAs will be shown at community events in the future.
